Biofeedback Sudbury

Biofeedback Sudbury - Biofeedback is a vast topic that has been utilized ever since the 1950s. Biofeedback is a training technique that involves monitoring certain life signs like for example EEG, heart rate, blood pressure and muscle activity as a guide. The technique is meant to facilitate greater control over one's body. Because that an individual's physiological state is normally related to one's state of mind, having immediate knowledge of certain signs can give insight to let someone know much more about what their thought processes are.

There are two main biofeedback techniques with the more common involving empowerment training. It is used as a means to become much more self aware with better self control. The second method is as a kind of therapy for overcoming certain sicknesses or health concerns. The same with all topics of self-help, biofeedback has its quirks. There are numerous aspects of body functioning that we could not manipulate with conscious control, though the realm of functions that we could manipulate is broader than what the majority of people realize.

One of the more surprising findings regarding biofeedback was discovered by Dr. James S. Gordon, who was a Yale neuroscientist and psychologist. It was found that various aspects of the autonomic nervous system are adaptable to conscious control. He experimented with rats and was able to get them to change a variety of nervous functions from brainwaves to heart rate by rewarding them selectively with direct stimulation to their pleasure centers.

There are various conditions that biofeedback has been scientifically proven helpful. It could seriously help with issues like spinal cord and stroke rehabilitation, pain and stress management, incontinence among others. Biofeedback devices can be found in the form of bathroom mirrors and scales, and can be more common than you might think. These tools are forms of biofeedback which convey to us information regarding our appearance and our weight. In this sense, we all utilize biofeedback.

In the future, individuals are optimistic that biofeedback may be able to treat headaches, depression, anxiety, drug addiction and other common concerns. There are some who believe that biofeedback devices would advance enough in the future to be able to control bodily functions. It has been recommended that real time MRI brain scans would enable us the opportunity to instantly notice when we are feeling angry or confused. This information will make us more inclined to think about how our moods affect our decisions or thoughts.
