Autism Sudbury

Autism Sudbury - Autism is a neural development disorder that is characterized by impaired communication, social interaction and by restricted and repetitive behavior. These characteristics commonly present before a child is 3 years old.

Autism affects the way the nerve cells and their synapses connect and organize and this affects how information is processed in the brain. How and why this takes place is not really understood. There are 3 recognized disorders within the autism spectrum: Pervasive Developmental Disorder-Not Otherwise Specified, which is often abbreviated as PDD-NOS, and Asperger Syndrome. Asperger Syndrome lacks delays within language and cognitive development. PDD-NOS are diagnosed when the full set of criteria for Asperger Syndrome or autism are not met.

Genetics seem to be strongly connected with autism. The genetics of autism have proven to be rather complicated and it is unclear whether certain cases of autism are explained by rare combinations of common genetic variants or by rare mutations in the genes. In various cases, autism is strongly associated with agents which result in birth defects. There have been controversies surrounding proposed environmental causes like for example heavy metals and pesticides. At one point there was concern regarding childhood vaccines although this hypotheses is biologically implausible and lacks convincing scientific evidence.

The prevalence of autism throughout the globe currently affects 1 to 2 individuals per one thousand. The CDC or Centers for Disease Control and Prevention within the United States, reports that around 9 out of one thousand kids are diagnosed with a kind of autism. Since the 1980s the number of individuals diagnosed has dramatically increased. This can be partially due to the changes in diagnostic procedures. It is difficult to determine if the actual prevalence has increased.

Typically, parents start to notice indications of autism in the first 2 years of their child`s life. Normally the indications gradually develop, but various children initially develop more normally and afterward they regress. Early cognitive intervention or behavioural therapy can help autistic children gain self-care, social skills and communication skills.

There have been several cases where kids have recovered, though there is no known cure. Various individuals believe that changes to the diet and the avoidances of certain environmental additives and chemicals will help to treat this condition. nearly all kids with autism do not live alone when they reach adulthood, but some have become successful.

Characteristics

Autism has many characteristics which are highly variable. This neuro-developmental disorder initially appears all through childhood or infancy and normally follows a steady course without remission. Several signs appear about 6 months of age and next become more established by age 2 or 3, and could continue into adulthood. Autism is characterized by a triad of symptoms consisting of: restricted interests, communication impairments, repetitive behavior and impairment in social interaction.
